Yves Saint-Laurent: “It was not very healthy”, Pierre Bergé’s husband confides in their threesome

He had never discussed his relations with her husband Pierre Bergé and with Yves Saint-Laurent. In a long interview with the Journal du dimanche, Madison Cox, widower of Pierre Bergé, returned for the first time to his life alongside the two men with a very strong relationship. He first explained their meeting. It was then in 1978 and a mutual friend took the still student to the haute couture house. “A year and a half later, I was invited to Deauville where Pierre and Yves were renting a house,” he says. “I was a kid who discovered this French world a little apart. Then, we started a more intimate story with Pierre Bergé”, he recalls.

But this relationship did not only bring good memories. “It was complicated. At first, the three of us saw each other. But eventually jealousy set in, on Saint Laurent’s part. It was not very healthy for everyone,” explains Madison Cox in the edition of the JDD this Sunday August 2. “I was young and intimidated, I was afraid of being crushed by these two men of strong character with important status,” says the man who is now at the head of the Yves Saint Laurent Pierre Bergé Foundation in Paris. So he made the decision to go to America, where he became a talented landscaper, recognized around the world.

Pierre Bergé and Madison Cox: a marriage almost 40 years after their meeting

A good decision. It wasn’t until 1990 that Pierre Bergé and Madison Cox spoke to each other again. In the meantime, Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint-Laurent have separated, while remaining friends. From there was born a beautiful love story between Madison Cox and Pierre Bergé, marked according to Madison Cox by “confidence” and “frankness”. And they will not leave each other until the death of Pierre Bergé, in September 2017. A few months before, without officially making it official, the two men had said “yes” to each other for life.
