Yannick Agnel is swimming in troubled waters. The double Olympic swimming champion is targeted by an investigation for “rape and sexual assault on a minor of 15 years”. After two days in police custody, he was released and placed under judicial supervision, despite the requisition for provisional detention from the Mulhouse prosecutor’s office.
The former swimming champion was arrested this Thursday, December 9 at his Parisian home on rogatory commission as part of a judicial investigation opened in Mulhouse for “rape and sexual assault on a minor of 15 years”.
The complainant is the daughter of her former coach
The facts date back to 2016, when Yannick Agnel was training at the Mulhouse Olympic Natation (MON), under the direction of Lionel Horter, with whom he even stayed. It is also one of the daughters of her former coach who lodged a complaint this summer against the double gold medalist of the London Games in 2012. The young girl was then 13 years old at the time of the facts, while Yannick Agnel had 24. According to a source close to the file cited by Le Journal du dimanche, the swimmer would have “recognized a certain form of proximity with the complainant but denied any notion of a sexual act”.
The year 2016 also marks the end of Yannick Agnel’s career. After the Olympic Games totally failed in Rio, the swimmer has indeed announced his retirement, and sent messages of thanks, in particular to “Lionel (and the whole family!)”. But relations then became strained, and a dispute now opposes Yannick Agnel to the Horter family. At the heart of these tensions, a bonus of 60,000 euros, which justice ordered the payment to the ex-swimmer.
