It has been nearly a month since the incident took place. On March 27, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 94th anniversary Academy Awards. For the first time, the comedian’s mother wanted to react to this gesture. Rosalie Rock spoke about it in a local media in South Carolina. In particular, she mentioned having thought in the first place that it was a set-up: “When he slapped Chris, he slapped us all. He really slapped me. When you hurt my child, you hurt,” she said.
A remark that echoes the press release written by the actor: “The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those who were present and all the viewers. I betrayed the trust of the Academy”, he admitted before continuing: “I deprived the other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I want to put the spotlight back on those who deserve recognition for their accomplishments and allow the Academy to return to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film (… ) Change takes time, and I am committed to working to ensure that violence does not take precedence over reason.”
Will Smith back
Will Smith has also made his comeback on the public scene. Indeed, this Saturday, April 23, the actor was seen in India, in a private airport. He was thus able to find his audience and fans who were waiting for him on the tarmac. The actor of Men In Black, all smiles, was happy to find his fans. In a casual outfit, the actor wanted to spend time with them. A way to show that he is not affected by all the controversy around his famous slap.
