On Thursday, November 11, the death toll at the Astroworld festival in Houston rose to 9 dead. Bharti Shahani, a 22-year-old student, was seriously injured during the walkabout. The family’s lawyer officially announced his death on Thursday. Bharti Shahani was due to graduate from A&M University in Texas next spring. His lawyer, James Lassiter, announced his death on Wednesday evening November 10 at a press conference.
So far, all the deaths linked to this concert were between 14 and 27 years old. Another 9 year old boy was also injured during this festival. Currently, he is in a medically induced coma. “For the first time in her life, she just wanted to have fun, and it was taken away from her,” Namrata Shahani, Bharti Shahani’s sister, said. Namrata was also at the concert with their cousin.
Astroworld, an investigation is underway
Following the tragedy, lawyers for Travis Scott said the rapper was unaware of the deaths and injuries until the show was over. They also said in a statement that the star was distraught and had even tried to get in touch with the families of the dead. This is to offer condolences and help.
A criminal investigation is underway following these numerous deaths. Additionally, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner told a press conference that “police told organizers to stop the show when fans in the crowd were given heart massages.” Still, fans claim Scott and Drake continued to play.
