On Tuesday evening, a 14-year-old girl died in Ohio. The young teenager dies following a drowning in a theme park. “Police were called to the Land of Illusion Aqua Adventure Park in Middletown after the teenager fell underwater and did not resurface,” the Butler County Sheriff’s Office said. The girl allegedly fell into the water around 5 p.m. and was not found until half an hour later, according to a press release. The girl has already been identified and went by the name of Mykiara Jones.
Other officials say Mykiara Jones was flown to Dayton Children’s Hospital. This is where she died. “This is a tragedy that no parent should have to endure. These are the calls that first responders dread and struggle to cope with. Our hearts and prayers are with the family,” said Richard Jones , Butler County Sheriff, in a statement. An investigation is still ongoing.
“The water park is closed following his death”
On their Facebook page, the owners of Land of Illusion said they have closed the water park. This is in order to be able to cooperate as best as possible with the investigators in the case to determine what may have happened. “We ask you to join us in sending thoughts and prayers and our deepest condolences to the family and friends of our guest, as well as to the team members and guests who were there last night for this tragedy, ”the owners also said.
Following this tragic event, people who knew Mykiara did not fail to react. “Mykiara was just a great student, and she was a great human being,” Jennifer King, Mykiara’s middle school teacher, told WCPO, an ABC affiliate in Cincinnati. “I am really saddened that this has happened because she could have done anything she wanted in life,” she continued.
