On June 14, 2022, a notorious child rapist was released despite a judge at Liverpool Assize Court ruling the pedophile still remains a danger to women and young women. John Fisher, 75 and a former resident of Webster Avenue in Wallasey, committed horrific acts of rape and sexual assault in the 1990s and 2000s. The Liverpool Echo reports that this inveterate rapist “subjected two girls to a campaign of rape and sexual abuse that lasted for years”. The two victims of John Fisher spoke about the release of their rapist.
They said they still deal with the fallout from the abuse and it has scarred them for their entire lives. Suffering from vascular dementia, the rapist who has just been released could never be sentenced because of his illness. Yet prosecutor Michael Scholes said, “The jury found that in fact the defendant did the acts and the victims were telling the truth.” Due to his medical condition, rapist John Fisher is deemed unfit to stand trial despite overwhelming evidence of his repulsive crimes.
Detention in hospital or release for this child rapist
Given his medical condition, the only options in John Fisher’s case were to keep him in custody, release him or issue him with a supervision order, the Mirror says. Judge Anil Murray says however in recent years John Fisher had continued to act “sexually inappropriate” towards people. Fisher still poses a significant risk to the public. The Liverpool child rapist was given a two-year supervision order and also given a restraining order preventing him from contacting his victims for ten years.
