This tragedy unfolded last Monday afternoon March 21 in Blackbrook, St Helens. Baby Bella-Rae Birch was mauled to death by the family dog. It was at their home in Merseyside that this horror scene happened. Police confirmed it was an American Bully and not a prohibited breed, according to the Daily Mail. Following this appalling situation, the mother of the child, Treysharn Bates, was crying hysterically according to the inhabitants. Help arrived quickly to take little Bella-Rae Birch to the emergency services. However, she will not survive her injuries.
Merseyside Police killed the dog before launching an investigation into whether it was an illegal breed under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. Police also reportedly tried to identify the dog’s former owners, according to the spokesperson. Neighbors also told the MailOnline that little Bella-Rae’s father Ryan Birch bought the animal for a pittance just a week before the tragedy.
4 dog breeds are illegal in the UK
In the UK, the breeding of American Bullies is illegal. Indeed, there are 4 breeds of dogs that are strictly forbidden to own in the United Kingdom. These are the American Pitbull Terriers, the Japanese Tosas, the Dogo Argentinos and the Fila Brazileiros. The 1991 law also prohibits crossbreeding between these four breeds. Otherwise, there are many exceptions not to be confused, such as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which looks like the Pitbull Terrier. Only this first breed is a legal and common pet.
