It was only in August 2021 that she went to consult in a private practice following unbearable pain. It was then that she was diagnosed with stage 4 synovial sarcoma. It is a cancer that only develops in soft tissue and is particularly rare. Moreover, only 3 people out of 1 million are affected by this form of cancer. Joanna, she’s having to face tough treatment
For Joanna Georgiou, the road to recovery seems long. She underwent 4 chemotherapy sessions. She has also lost her hair and may have her leg amputated in order to save her life. Despite the treatment, the 6 tumors in his lungs did not diminish in any way. As for the tumor in her knee, it just changed shape, but didn’t shrink in size.
The good news is with the tumor in his heart. “The tumor near my heart has seen the biggest change, it started off nine centimeters and is now three and a half centimeters,” says Joanna. “The doctors think they can remove the tumor from my chest and I should have my leg amputated because there is no other way to get rid of this tumor,” she adds.
