Sean Connery “wanted to end it”: the confidences of his wife, Micheline Roquebrune, on his last hours

A difficult end of life … On the night of October 30 to 31, 2020, Sean Connery passed away at the age of 90. While suffering from dementia, his last moments were particularly painful. Present at his bedside until the last second, his wife, the artist-painter Micheline Roquebrune, whom he had married as a second marriage in 1975, now feels relieved to no longer see the man she loves suffering. For Paris Match, she confided: “His health had not been very good for 4 years. He was suffering from senility and was aware of his condition which made him very unhappy. He was bored. He slept for days on end. to try to forget. In moments of lucidity, and he had some, he would tell me that he had had enough and that he wanted to end it. It tore my heart to see him like that. It wasn’t a lifetime. In the end I begged the doctor to give him marijuana, anything to make him feel a little happier. ”

In mourning, the wife of Sean Connery regrets not being able to help her husband. “What’s terrible is that when I took him to the Mayo Clinic for a check-up about four years ago, the doctor told me that Sean had a very big heart, that he had he was having difficulty beating and he might not have it for a very long time. The only thing that could save him was putting him on a pacemaker. I told him to do it. Looking back, I don’t know not if I was right, ”she revealed. Regarding her last wishes, she then explained: “I did not want a religious ceremony, because Sean was not a believer and neither was I. He was cremated in the Bahamas. His ashes are at my house in a vase while waiting. that the health crisis allow to organize a ceremony. We will throw part of his ashes on the golf course of Lyford Cay and the other in Scotland on that of Saint Andrews. ”

“He blew through the night around half past one in the morning”

On October 31, it was the star’s granddaughter, journalist Stéphanie Renouvin, who spoke of her grandfather’s death on BFMTV. Despite the shock, she explained with poetry: “When he stopped making James Bond, he wanted to prove that he was something other than a beautiful envelope, with a devastating smile, malicious and seductive eyes . We have the only consolation today to say that he died in the night. He died slowly. He breathed in the night around half past one in the morning (…) A very beautiful death. ”
