The actor-singer with an angel’s face revealed by the Disney musical “High School Musical” was born on October 18, 1987 in San Luis Obispo, California.

Zachary David Alexander Efron – alias Zac Efron – spent an “extremely normal” childhood surrounded by his father David Efron, an electrician, and his mother Starla Baskett, a former secretary. The family expanded in 1992 with the arrival of Dylan, Zac’s younger brother.

He soon discovered a passion for singing and dancing. And at the age of eleven, encouraged by his father, he takes acting lessons. In high school, he took part in theater plays and several musicals. He then takes an agent in Los Angeles which allows him in 2002 to land television roles. He appeared in several series including “Firefly”, “Emergency” and “The Protector” before playing the character of Cameron Bale in the series “Summerland” in 2004.

After two seasons, the series is stopped but Zac does not remain inactive for all that. His advantageous physique has not gone unnoticed and there is no lack of propositions. We see him in several series or TV movies such as “The Experts: Miami”, “The Palace Life of Zack and Cody” or “Miracle Run”.

In 2006, with the phenomenon “High School Musical”, Zac became a star among young people, especially teenage girls. The Disney music TV movie is a real success. The songs of the musical are a hit in the American charts.

To the great displeasure of his fans, “High School Musical” is also an opportunity for Zac to find love in the person of Vanessa Hudgens, his partner on the screen. An idyll that will continue until 2010.

Two other films will follow in 2007 and 2008, again with Zac in the role of Troy Bolton, captain of the basketball team.

In 2007, he plays alongside John Travolta in another musical film: “Hairspray”.

Zac Efron, who wishes to privilege his acting career, then abandons musicals. In 2009, he gets the lead role in the film “Me and Orson Welles” where he gives the line to Claire Danes. Also in 2009, he plays in the comedy “17 years again” alongside Matthew Perry.

Determined to get out of the straitjacket of the good-looking kid for young girls, Zac will then turn to a more dramatic register. Notably with the films “Le Secret de Charlie Saint-Cloud” (2010), “The Lucky One” (2012) and “Paperboy” in 2013 with Nicole Kidman. The latter was controversial at Cannes and divided the critics.

As Zac Efron himself said in an interview: “Anything that can help me break my image of a bird that has fallen from the nest is welcome”. Pushing the concept to the extreme, the actor, who has become addicted to drugs and alcohol, is forced in 2013 to undergo two detoxification cures.
