Born in 1967 in Severn, USA, Toni Braxton grew up with siblings of six children. Passionate about music from an early age, she sang in her church and formed her first band, The Braxtons, with her sisters. While singing distractedly at a gas station, Bill Pettaway spotted the young woman. He helps her get her first contract with the Arista label.
If the Braxtons’ first single, The Good Life, is not a resounding success, it at least allows the girls to get Antonio L.A.’s attention. Reid and Kenneth Edmonds. The year 1992 marked a turning point in Toni Braxton’s career when she was called upon to participate in the soundtrack of Eddie Murphy’s film Boomerang. With the exposure the film gave her, she promoted her single Love Shoulda Brought You Home.
The following year, Toni Braxton launched herself without a net and released her debut album in her own name. The album was a huge success, selling over 8 million copies. It won two Grammy Awards. Her second album, Secrets, won the same awards. A veritable laboratory of hits, Secrets includes the titles You’re Makin’ Me High, and Un-Break My Heart, which will be Toni Braxton’s biggest commercial success.
After some financial setbacks following his break-up with the Arista label, Toni Braxton turned to the stage, becoming the first black woman to play Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. The show sold out every night.
Her third album was barely released following her disagreements with production companies, but was finally released in 1999. The Heat unveils a more confident Toni Braxton, and brings together some of her best hits such as Just be a man about it. During the 2000s, Braxton released several albums such as More than a Woman, Libra, and Birdman. Toni Braxton is slowly moving away from his musical career to start a family.
Since 2010, Toni Braxton can be seen on the small screen in the reality show Braxton Family Values, which she hosts with her sisters.
On the heart side, Toni Braxton was the wife of Kery Lewis with whom she has two sons, Denim and Deizel. Separated in 2009, their divorce is pronounced in 2013.
