Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, better known under the pseudonym of The Weeknd, was born on February 16, 1990 in Canada. Coming from a very modest family, he fell into drugs at only 11 years old and dropped out of school very quickly to devote himself to his passion for music.

He met producer Jeremy Rose in 2010, with whom he began to work on a few songs and decided to take the pseudonym of The Weeknd in reference to his dropout from high school to be all the time on weekends. With this new name, he created his YouTube page, where he posted his first songs. In a short time, he attracts the attention of rap fans and especially the rapper Drake, who shares his videos on his blog. The following year, he released his first mixtape, House of Balloons, to critical acclaim.

After a triumphant tour, he released two more mixtapes, Thursday and Echoes of Silence, which were very successful, allowing him to tour around the world. His talent seduced many artists, including Justin Timberlake, Sia and Alicia Keys. He also writes for the cinema with Devil May Cry present on the soundtrack of The Hunger Games: The Crush or Earned It for Fifty Shades of Grey. With his success, he released his third album, Starboy, which became number 1 in dozens of countries.

On December 5, 2020, he won the award for International Male Artist of the Year at the NRJ Music Awards.

On the heart side, he dated Bella Hadid from 2015 to November 2016. Since January 2017, he is in a relationship with singer and actress Selena Gomez. In October 2017, after 10 months of affair, the couple broke up.
