Italian of origin, Rose McGowan was born on September 5, 1973 in Florence. Second child of six, she spent her childhood in Italy in the Children of God sect. She was 9 years old when her father decided to flee the sect and move to the United States. After her parents’ divorce the following year, she left to live with her mother at her grandmother’s house in the small town of Gig Harbor, Washington. Her adolescence is difficult, she lives a few months on the street to escape her mother who accuses her of drug abuse. At the age of 15, the young girl decides to leave her family and obtains the authorization to be emancipated. From then on, she lies about her age to find odd jobs and survive.
Fate gets involved and it is an agent who will spot her in the street. Rose McGowan then began to shoot commercials and made a few film appearances (California Man in 1992). Then it is her meeting with Gregg Araki which will be determining for the continuation of her course. He entrusted her with a role in The Doom Generation (1995), a film a bit provocative and controversial but which allows her to be noticed. In 1996, she became famous in Scream by Wes Craven, which was a box-office success. However, the young actress struggles to break through on the big screen. She turns in films with mixed success (Phantoms, Jawbreaker, Devil in the flesh …).
It is thanks to television that she meets the notoriety with the series Charmed in 2001. She replaced Shannen Doherty and played the witch Paige alongside Alyssa Milano until 2006. The actress returns to the big screen at this time and chains several prestigious collaborations, Brian de Palma (The Black Dahlia), Quentin Tarantino (Boulevard of Death) and Robert Rodriguez (Planet Terror). Since then she alternates with roles for television, including the series Once Upon a Time (2013-2014) and Chosen (since 2013). In 2016, she is in the poster of a thriller The Tell-Tale heart by John La Tier.
On the private side, Rose McGowan got engaged to Marilyn Manson in 1998. But in January 2001, the couple announced their separation. The actress is engaged again a few years later with the director Robert Rodriguez, but the engagement turns short again (2006-2009). In October 2013, the actress married her partner of one year, Davey Detail, but in February 2016, she filed for divorce. In November 2016, she officialized on social networks her love story with the musician Jordan Asher, 29 years old.
