Renee Zellweger was born on April 25, 1969 in Texas to parents who immigrated from Europe in the 1960s. Her father, Emil Zellweger, originally from Switzerland, is an engineer, and her mother is Norwegian. A tomboy, she followed her older brother, Drew, to the soccer field. Enrolled in the Humanities program at the University of Austin in Texas, she is a jovial student and a night owl who loves to party. At the same time, she took acting classes, initially to earn points for her exams, but she got hooked.

After a confidential debut on television in the early 90s in the series Married, Two Children, she gets a first film role in My Boyfriend Back in 1993.
