René Angélil, born January 16, 1942, is best known as Celine Dion’s husband and artistic agent. But it is as a singer, in the Canadian vocal trio Les Baronets, that he began his career in the early 1960s. The group was successful in Quebec and then disbanded in 1972. He then takes care of the career of singer Ginette Reno. But when Ginette Reno broke off their collaboration, René Angélil thought about quitting the business. Fate would then manifest itself in the form of a 12-year-old girl. At the beginning of 1981, he received an audio tape on which he heard a certain Céline Dion singing. He is immediately won over by the voice of the young artist.

As a great poker fan, he decides to bet on her to the point of mortgaging his house to produce his first album, La Voix du Bon Dieu, which is released at the end of 1981. The gamble paid off, since it was awarded a gold disc in Canada. Céline Dion’s career is launched. René then devotes himself exclusively to the singer. In June 2014, the couple announces that they will no longer work together after thirty three years of collaboration. Aldo Giampaolo, a long-time friend of the couple, is now associate manager and CEO of Feeling Productions, which manages Celine Dion’s career.

On the private side, despite the twenty-six years that separate them, René Angelil and Celine Dion fall in love, and their union is celebrated in December 1994 at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal. The couple has three children, all conceived by medically assisted procreation. René-Charles is born on January 25, 2001. Then on October 23, 2010, twins Eddy and Nelson were born. Twice divorced, René Angelil has three other children: Patrick (1968) from his marriage with Denyse Duquette (1966-1973), Jean-Pierre (1974) and Anne-Marie (1977) from his marriage with Anne-Renée Kirouac (1973-1988). In 1999, René Angélil was diagnosed with throat cancer, which was fortunately treated successfully. But in December 2013, he had to fight the disease again and had an operation on a cancerous tumor.

On January 14, 2016, in Las Vegas, René Angelil died at the age of 73 from throat cancer.
