Rania Al-Yassin was born on August 31, 1970 in Kuwait City. Daughter of a doctor born in Tulkarem in Palestine, she grew up in Kuwait where she completed her primary and secondary education. She continued her studies abroad and obtained a degree in Business Administration at the American University in Cairo. In the early 1990s, the family left Kuwait in the midst of the Gulf War and decided to move to Jordan. Their destiny changed when they met the eldest son of King Hussein of Jordan. Prince Abdullah, a few months after his love at first sight for Rania, asked for the hand of the beautiful young woman who was then 22 years old. On June 10, 1993, the couple celebrated their wedding in Amman.

Still unknown to the general public, Rania was propelled to the forefront of the international scene when King Hussein of Jordan died in February 1999. Hussein wanted to change the order of succession to the throne a few months before his death; initially it was Hassan of Jordan, the king’s brother, who was to reign, but his eldest son, Prince Abdullah, was called to the throne. On June 9, 1999, Abdullah II of Jordan was enthroned and Rania became Queen of Jordan. A charming asset of her country, a true fashion icon, she wishes to represent the image of the modern Muslim woman. Very elegant, she displays, during official ceremonies, her taste for haute couture and wears dresses signed Elie Saab, Narciso Rodriguez or Prada. She does not hesitate to express her convictions and fervently defends the rights of women and children. Education remains her theme of predilection. In 1995, she founded the Jordan River Foundation, an NGO whose ambition is to develop economic and social projects to fight poverty and promote the implementation of educational programs. Rania from Jordan travels the four corners of the world to campaign for peace and education for children.

Since the Arab Spring in 2011, Queen Rania has favored Jordan for her travels among the underprivileged populations of her country. A fan of social networks, she now has an official account on YouTube, Queen Rania, which broadcasts videos of her official speeches.

She is very involved in the monarchy, but the role she prefers is that of mother. The couple has four children; Hussein, Crown Prince (born 28/06/1994), Iman (born 27/09/1996), Salma (born 26/09/2000) and Hashem (born 30/01/2005).
