The youngest son of Prince Charles of England and Diana Spencer, Henry Charles Albert David, known as Harry, was born on September 15, 1984 at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London. Grandson of Queen Elizabeth of England and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, he is fifth in the order of succession to the throne behind his father, older brother William, and nephew George and niece Charlotte. He followed in his brother’s footsteps and studied at the Wetherby School in London and then at the Ludgrove School in Berkshire. He was 12 years old when his mother died tragically in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997. In 1998, he was admitted to Eton College where he graduated in June 2003. He then took a two-year sabbatical during which he was introduced to animal husbandry and rodeos on a ranch in Tooloombilla, Australia, and participated in humanitarian projects in Lesotho, South Africa, following the example of his mother.

In May 2005, the young prince, like other members of the royal family, began military training. He joined the prestigious Sandhurst Military Academy, which trains the elite of British officers. In 2007, he was the first member of the royal family to be sent to a war zone since his uncle, Prince Andrew of England, who fought in the Falklands War. Prince Harry was then an officer in the Blues and Royals Cavalry Regiment when he landed in southern Afghanistan in December 2007 alongside thousands of British soldiers. But the operation turns short for security reasons and the prince is repatriated in March 2008. In January 2013, he completes a 5-month mission as a co-pilot gunner on Apache helicopter in Afghanistan.
