Phil Collins was born in Chiswick, England on January 30, 1951. Although his mother, who was an arts agent, gave him small roles in television series as a child, it was the field of music that fascinated him. He turned to playing drums and began his career with the band Flaming Youth. It was in 1970 that his career really took off when he became the drummer, and occasionally the singer, of the band Genesis.

When Peter Gabriel, the band’s leader, left to pursue a solo career, he took over the reins, and Genesis’ success continued unabated. At the same time, Phil Collins also released solo albums, starting in 1981, and once again, success came to the fore, notably with the title In the Air Tonight from the album Face Value. With no less than seven Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes and an Oscar for the song You’ll be in my Heart, from the soundtrack of the film Tarzan, he earned as many honours as gold records. This Hollywood success story is not perfect, however. In the 1990s, audiences began to drift apart, and Phil Collins decided to leave Genesis in 1996. The talented composer had more than one string to his bow: he concentrated on producing soundtracks for film.

On the personal side, Phil Collins is the father of five children from his three marriages. In September 1975, he married Andréa, with whom he became the father of two children; Simon born in 1976 and Joely born in 1973. The couple divorced in 1980. Then the singer remarried Jill Tavelman in 1984 and expanded the family with the birth of Lily in 1989, but the couple divorced in 1996. He married Orianne in 1999, with whom he has two sons, Nicholas (2001) and Mathew (2004). But the couple divorced in 2008. Surprisingly, however, the couple met again in the summer of 2015 and decided to live together again.
