Nicole Kidman was born in Honolulu on June 20, 1967 to a father who was a biochemist and psychologist and a mother who taught in a nursing school. She was four years old when her whole family returned to live in Sydney, Australia, where her Irish ancestors settled in the mid-19th century. At a very young age, Nicole Kidman developed a passion for the arts: classical dance, theater, literature, photography… A true pillar of the family, Janelle Kidman, a committed feminist, encouraged her daughters to follow in her footsteps and took them with her to the Women’s Electoral Lobby, an Australian feminist organization. At the age of 17, the teenager’s life is turned upside down when she learns that her beloved mother is suffering from breast cancer. With her sister, Antonia, she takes turns looking after her.
