Born on 28 February 1982 in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, Natalia had a difficult childhood. Her father abandoned her when she was very young and her mother, Larisa, was a worker in an automobile factory. She was 6 years old when her half-sister, Oksana, was born, suffering from cerebral palsy and severe autism. Natalia’s stepfather leaves the home and leaves the family destitute. At the age of 11, the studious schoolgirl, must sometimes desert the school benches to work and sell vegetables on the market with her mother. In the meantime, a second half-sister, Kristina, comes to enlarge the family. As an independent teenager, she became independent at the age of 16, sharing a flat with her best friend and developing her small market gardening business with her stall on the market. Then, encouraged by her boyfriend, she enrolled in a modeling school, and she was immediately fascinated by the world of fashion. Pugnacious, she learns English in a few months, convinced that this path will change her destiny.

In December 1999, spotted by an agent, she flew to France to sign a contract with the Parisian agency terraViva Model Managment. Natalia Vodianova diversifies her activities and takes on the cap of stylist for the lingerie brand Etam whose collections she has been designing since 2009. In 2005, her foundation The Naked Heart Foundation was created. Originally dedicated to the construction of playgrounds for children from deprived families in Russia, the foundation also subsidises psychiatric institutions for children.

On the private side, Natalia Vodianova married Justin Portman, an English aristocrat, in November 2001 at the age of nineteen. A few weeks later, the young couple founded a family with the birth of Lucas Alexander on 22 December 2001. The couple has two other children; Neva (born 24/03/2006) and Viktor (born 13/09/2007). In 2010 the couple separated and Natalia found love again on the arm of Antoine Arnault, son of businessman Bernard Arnault, owner of the LVMH group. On 2 May 2014, she gave birth to her fourth child, the first for Antoine Arnault, a little boy named Maxim. The couple is expecting a child in 2016. The young woman announces on her Instagram account that she gave birth to Roman on June 4, 2016. On January 1, 2020, she announces her engagement to Antoine Arnault on her Instagram account. On September 21, 2020, she publishes on Instagram a photo of her wedding with Antoine Arnault, celebrated at the town hall of the 16th arrondissement of Paris on September 19, 2020.
