Son of the seven-time German Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher and Corinna Schumacher, Mick was born on March 22, 1999. He has an older sister, Gina Maria, born in 1997. From a very young age, he was passionate about karting and followed in his father’s footsteps, winning the German Junior Karting Championship at the age of 15. To avoid any media pressure, his father registered him on Spanish circuits. Thus, at the age of 9, he participated in a karting championship in Catalonia under his mother’s surname, Betsch, and chaperoned by his grandfather. The anonymity allows the teenager to progress at his own pace in complete discretion.

But on December 29, 2013, in Meribel, while Mick Schumacher was skiing alongside his father, the latter was the victim of a serious accident. Following a head injury, the former pilot is plunged into a coma from which he comes out in June 2014. In September 2014, he is taken care of at home, where he continues his convalescence, in his property in Gland, on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. This dramatic event turns the family’s life upside down. Mick, from then on, was called Mick Junior during the races he took part in. He definitely comes out of anonymity in September 2014, on the circuit of Aunay-sous-Bois in Orne, when he wins the title of vice-world champion of karting. His talent is spotted by the Dutch team Van Amersfoort, which offers him to join its team. Mick thus abandons karting to devote himself to Formula 4, a championship created in 2014 to allow young drivers to get their bearings. On April 25 and 26, 2015, in Oschersleben in northern Germany, the young Mick will make the first of eight races of the season.
