Melinda Gates, French of her maiden name, was born on August 15, 1964 in Dallas in the United States. Daughter of an engineer and a housewife, she grew up in a family of four children. She graduated from Duke University with a degree in computer science and economics, and then earned an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business.

In 1987, after an internship at IBM, she joined Microsoft in Seattle as a marketing manager. At a company picnic, she met her boss, Bill Gates. Gradually, she climbed the ladder until she was appointed general manager of the multimedia products division in 1996.

In the meantime, she married Bill Gates in a ceremony in Hawaii on January 1, 1994. The couple started a family with the birth of three children; Jennifer Katharine (born in 1996), Rory John (born in 1999) and Phoebe Adele (born in 2002). In 1996, she ended her career at Microsoft to devote herself to her children.

From her education at the Ursuline nuns, Melinda Gates will keep a deep sense of dedication. With her husband, she will invest in various charitable actions.
