Mark Ruffalo, born in 1967 in Wisconsin, is a true theater enthusiast. A student of the prestigious Stella Adler’s class, he created his own company called Orpheus Theater Company, and soon began writing and directing plays in which he acted.

Coming from a modest family of Italian origin, he earns his living as a bartender in parallel with his theatrical activities.

In the cinema, the actor collects second roles and gradually gets noticed by the public and critics, thanks to Michel Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) and David Fincher’s Zodiac (2007). The actor has a filmography strewn with prestigious collaborations, Shutter Island (2010) by Martin Scorcese, Avengers (2012), Iron Man 3 (2013) and Foxcatcher (2014). In January 2015, he received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for this role.

If the actor leads his career with discretion and ambition, he wants to preserve his family life above all else: Mark has been married since 2000 to the French-American actress Sunrise Coigney, with whom he has three children: Keen, Bella Noche and Odette. However, his private life is far from being a long, quiet river: in 2002, he was operated on for a brain tumour. If it turns out to be benign, the young man was left with facial paralysis for a few months. In 2008, when he had fully recovered, a new tragedy struck him: his brother Scott was shot and killed in Beverly Hills, without any real light having ever been shed on the conditions of his death.
