Marie de Danemark, real name Marie Agathe Odile Cavallier, was born on February 6, 1976 in Paris. A young woman rather unknown to the general public, she came under the spotlight in 2007 when she got engaged to Joachim of Denmark.
Their union made the headlines in Denmark, as it was the Prince’s second marriage. Joachim of Denmark was first married in 1995 to Alexandra Manley, but after 10 years of living together, the couple divorced. When he meets Marie, Prince Joachim has the impression of being reborn and finding happiness again. He soon asked the young woman to marry him and the couple were united on May 24, 2008, making Marie the new Princess of Denmark.
One year after their marriage, the princely couple welcomed their first child: a little boy named Henrik. Three years later, in January 2012, the princess gave birth to a little Athena. In addition to taking care of her children, Princess Marie accompanies her husband to the four corners of the world for political events and humanitarian missions such as the fight against AIDS. Very involved in the defense of heritage, she also works in collaboration with UNESCO.
In July 2020, Princess Marie of Denmark publishes on Instagram photos of her husband and children, on vacation at the castle of Cayx, in the Lot, property of the Danish royal family since 1974. On September 1st, 2020, Joachim of Denmark becomes the new Defense Attaché at the Danish Embassy in France, for a period of three years.
On July 24, 2020, Prince Joachim was operated on in Toulouse hospital after suffering a stroke.
