Leïla Bekhti was born in 1984 and grew up in the suburbs of Paris. Passionate about the theatre, she obtained her literary baccalaureate and attended various theatre schools. In 2005, she was cast in the film Sheitan with Vincent Cassel and was offered one of the important roles in the film. Leïla Bekhti then plays in the TV film Harkis with Smaïn and rediscovers the history of Algeria, the country where her family comes from. We find Leïla Bekhti in Paris, je t’aime and then in Roschdy Zem’s first film Mauvaise Foi. More recently, her friend Géraldine Nakache offered her the lead role alongside her in Tout ce qui brille, a real box-office success, which earned her a César for Best Female Hope. In 2011, she plays in Toi, Moi, Les autres and Itinéraire Bis. After La source des femmes, Leïla Bekhti returns to the screen in Une vie meilleure with Guillaume Canet in January 2012.
On the private side, Leila Bekhti meets actor Tahar Rahim, on the set of Un Prophète, a film by Jacques Audiard, released in 2009. They are getting married discreetly in 2010. On 25 July 2017, they become parents of a little boy named Souleiman. In November 2019, during an interview with Madame Figaro magazine, she revealed that she was pregnant with their second child.
