Kevin Costner was born on January 18, 1955 in Lynwood, California. Son of a social worker and an electrician, he has an older brother named Dan. As an athletic teenager with a passion for music, he nevertheless turned towards marketing studies and in 1973 he entered the University of Fullerton in California. To pay his bills, the student found a small job as a stage manager in a theater. The trigger was there and he decided to take acting classes in the evenings. In 1978, after graduating in marketing, he started working.

After returning from a business trip to Mexico, Kevin Costner met an unusual actor, Richard Burton, on the plane. The latter advises him to devote himself to his passion, acting. From 1981, the aspiring actor will skim the castings. But the beginnings are difficult, and the small roles he gets are finally cut in the editing. In 1985, director Lawrence Kasdan gave him a role in the western Silverado. The film is a success and allows Kevin Costner to be noticed.
