Katie Holmes was born on December 18, 1978 in Toledo, Ohio. Daughter of a lawyer and a decorator, Katie is the youngest of five children. She grew up in her hometown, alongside her three sisters and brother. As a high school student at Notre-Dame Academy, a Catholic school for young girls, she takes many acting classes and discovers her vocation. She dreams of a career in Hollywood but, not daring to believe it, makes a rather promising debut in modeling.

In 1997, she was admitted to the prestigious Columbia University, but she postponed her entry until 2000: an agent convinced her to leave New York for Los Angeles to cast pilots for television series. Her advice was inspired, as she got a small part in Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm, as soon as her second audition. The following year, she was noticed by Kevin Williamson, a creator and executive producer, who offered her the role that made her famous, that of Joey Potter in the teenage series Dawson. The series was a huge worldwide success for six years and the young actress’s talent was acclaimed several times, including an MTV Movie Award for Best Female Newcomer in 1999 and a Teen Choice Award for Best Television Actress in 2002.

At the same time, the actress is making a comeback on the big screen. She played in Wonder Boys with Michael Douglas and then in Phone Game with actor Colin Farrell in 2002. When Dawson’s career ended in 2003, she devoted herself fully to the 7th art. In 2003, she played in Peter Hoge’s Pieces of April. The following year, she appeared in Forest Whitaker’s Stars in the Eyes, where she portrays the daughter of the President of the United States. Christopher Nolan gave her a sexier role in 2005 as Batman’s girlfriend in Batman Begins. But the audience was not seduced, to the point that she received the 2005 Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actress. In 2008, she played alongside Diane Keaton in Mad Money. That same year, she starred in the Broadway play All my Sons. More recently, in 2011, she made a few series appearances in Les Kennedy (season 1) and How I met your mother. In 2016, she will play Jacqueline Kennedy again in the sequel to Les Kennedy, and will be behind the camera for the first time in All We Had. In 2018, she was featured in Gary Ross’ Ocean’s 8.

On the private side, Katie Holmes had a history in 2002 with Joshua Jackson, her partner in the Dawson series. She then shared the life of actor Chris Klein, the star of American Pie, with whom she became engaged in 2003. But the two actors separated in March 2005. A few months later, she found love again on the arm of Tom Cruise. The couple has one child, a daughter named Suri, born on April 18, 2006. In November of the same year, the couple got married. But six years later, on June 29, 2012, Suri launched divorce proceedings. In September 2017, Katie Holmes appeared on the arm of actor Jamie Foxx in Malibu. But the couple separated in 2019. In September 2020, Emilio Vitolo Jr., a young chef and Katie Holmes appear together on the streets of New York.
