In the early 2000s, the Good Charlotte made new generations dance to the sound of I Just Wanna Live and The Anthem. Benji and Joel
He is the voice and co-founder of the band Good Charlotte, with his twin brother Benji. Producer, actor, DJ… Joel Madden’s talents are countless. But perhaps it is by his generosity that he shines the most? Indeed, he is also an ambassador for Unicef.
Born in 1979 in Waldorf, he grew up alongside his brothers and sisters. Following the departure of their father, the Madden brothers take on odd jobs to feed their family. Their interest in music was not long in coming, and Joel and Benji started their band Good Charlotte in 1995, at the age of 16, with their friends Billy Martin, Aaron Escolopio and Paul Thomas. After a first album named after the band, they received critical acclaim for their second opus, The Young & the Hopeless. Their efforts were rewarded and the band’s reputation continued to grow, and they were chosen to appear on MTV’s All Things Rock. Subsequently, the band released the albums The Chronicles of life & death, Good morning Revival and Cardiology, the latter released in 2010.
The Maddens’ creativity knows no bounds, and they have made numerous appearances on the big and small screens: in the film Material Girls and the musical comedy The Naked Brothers Band. Benji and Joel Madden also teamed up with their brother Josh to create the clothing brand MADE Clothing, which later became DMCA Collective. They also run a production company.
Joel Madden is married to actress Nicole Richie. Together, they founded The Richie Madden Children’s Foundation which supports children in need. He is the father of two children and lives in Sydney.
