American businessman, Jeffrey Epstein was born on January 20, 1953 in New York. He began his career as a professor of mathematics and physics, before turning to finance. He became a trader with the investment bank Bear Stearns in the 1970s, then created his own asset management structure.

As a billionaire, he developed relationships with many personalities from the jet-set and the political world, in the United States and in England, such as Kevin Spacey, Donald Trump and Prince Andrew of England. In 2000, he created the Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation to fund research in science and education. Three years later, he developed a university programme in molecular biology and offered $30 million to Harvard University.

In the mid-2000s, Jeffrey Epstein was facing justice for sex trafficking of underage girls in his residences in New York and Palm Beach, Florida. Sentenced in 2008 to 18 months in prison, he was released after 13 months and placed on the sex offender registry. In 2015, a new scandal erupted with new charges of sexual assault. On 7 July 2019, he was arrested for sex trafficking of minors and imprisoned. On 10 August 2019, he was found hanged in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, at the age of 66.
