Jared Harris was born on August 24, 1961 in London. Son of an actor couple, Richard Harris and Elizabeth Rees-Williams, he has two brothers named Damian and Jamie. His childhood is marked by the separation of his parents and the remarriage of his mother with the actor Rex Harrison. As a child of the seraglio, he follows in the footsteps of his parents and turns to an artistic career. After his schooling in London, he left to study drama in the United States and joined the North Carolina Duke University from which he graduated in 1984.

Back in London, he began his career on the stage where he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. He interprets the classical repertoire and auditions. At the end of the 80’s, his older brother, Damian, gave him a start and directed him in his film The Rachel File. From then on, he gets a few appearances in several films; Distant horizons, The last of the Mohicans or born killers. The success of these films allows him to become known little by little. In 2012, he is in the poster of two films; Sherlock Holmes 2: Game of Shadows by Guy Ritchie and Lincoln by Steven Spielberg. He continues his career in film and multiplies the artistic collaborations; with Paul W. Anderson (Pompeii), Robert Zemeckis (Allies), or Sean Penn (The Last face). In 2020, he is in the cast of Morbius by Daniel Espinosa, alongside Jared Leto.

At the same time, Jared Harris is famous on the small screen. In 2008, after various appearances, he lands a role in the first season of the series Fringe, alongside Joshua Jackson. His performance earned him a recurring role in several seasons of the series Mad Men, which was a great success. In 2012, he is back in the 4th season of Fringe. In 2016, he played George VI in the series The Crown. In 2019, he lands one of the main roles in the series Chernobyl in which he plays Valery Legasov, a Soviet nuclear physicist.

On the private side, in November 2013, the actor married his partner of several years, the actress Allegra Riggio. Previously, he was married to Emilia Fox between 2005 and 2010.
