James Marsters: biography and latest news!

  • Occupation : Actor
  • Nationality : American
  • Birth : August 20th 1962 (Greenville, California – USA)
  • Age : 58 years old

Son of a pastor and a social worker, James Masters spent his childhood in California. Very early passionate about theater, he played in many plays and musicals in high school before leaving for Los Angeles to study at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts. In order to enrich his experience, he then attended two other universities: the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and Julliard University in New York.

For 10 years, he performed in countless plays and in 1990, even founded his own company: the New Mercury Theatre. In 1992, Marsters got his first television role in the series Welcome to Alaska, before finally being revealed to the public at the age of 34, thanks to Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997). Originally, the actor was only hired for a few episodes, but the public adhered so much to the character of Spike that Marsters interpreted the complex and charismatic vampire during the seven seasons of the series. Once Buffy stopped, he even continued to play the character in its spin-off, Angel.

Fascinated by ambiguous characters, he is also a singer/songwriter who then puts his talent to work in many other series. Detective in FBI: Missing Persons, Machiavellian in Smallville or troublemaker in Torchwood, he goes so far as to interpret the serial killer Ted Bundy in The Capture of the Green River Killer. Until then ignored by the film industry, the actor appears in 2007 in the comedy-drama P.S. I Love You alongside Hilary Swank before resuming his mask of villain by playing Piccolo in his first blockbuster: Dragonball Evolution.
