Crown Prince of Norway, Haakon of Norway was born on 20 July 1973 in Oslo. After the death of his grandfather in 1991, he was officially named Crown Prince.
The young man is first in the order of succession, although he is only the second child of the King and Queen, as the old Norwegian law prevents his sister Märtha-Louise from taking the throne. Before taking the throne, Haakon left Norway for a while to study in England at the London School of Economics. After completing his master’s degree, he returned to Norway, where he met Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby.
It was love at first sight, even if their relationship caused a scandal. Mette is a commoner, the daughter of a journalist and a bank employee, and she already has a child from a previous marriage, which the court does not like. Haakon overcame this criticism and the couple married in August 2001. The couple had Ingrid Alexandra in 2004 and Sverre Magnus in December 2005. Although their union caused a scandal, the couple managed to settle in the hearts of Norwegians to the point of becoming very popular.
