Her father, Dennis Stefani, is Italian and her mother Patti Flynn, Irish. With her older brother, Eric, she puts on small puppet shows. In 1986, while she was in high school, her brother started a band, No Doubt, and invited her sister to sing backup vocals. But the young girl continued her schooling and after graduating from high school, she chose to study aesthetics to become a professional make-up artist.

At the end of the 80s, after the suicide of the singer of the group John Spence, Eric Stefani managed to convince his sister to replace him. The group released its first eponymous album in 1992, whose release went unnoticed. Three years later, in 1995, the single Don’t speak, taken from the album Tragic Kingdom, became a worldwide hit and propelled the small Californian band on the international scene. In spite of a family discord that provoked the departure of Eric Stefani, the group continued its success, carried by the charisma of its singer and released several albums, Return of saturn (2000) and Rock steady (2001).

In 2004, Gwen Stefani wanted to give a new impetus to her career and released her first solo album Love Angel Music Baby. For promotion, the singer surrounded herself with four Harajuku Girls, dancers whose nickname was inspired by a district of Tokyo.

At the same time, as a savvy businesswoman, she decided to create her own brand. Her clothing style makes her a true fashion icon. In 2003, she launched her clothing line called L.A.M.B (for Love Angel Music Baby) and dresses her dancers with her creations. The label is acclaimed by many stars and her models are paraded at the New York Fashion Week. Strong of this success, she launches another line of clothes in 2005, Harajuku Lovers which is inspired by the Japanese culture. In 2008, a second solo album, The Sweet Escape, was released and Gwen Stefani won the People’s Choice Award for Female Singer of the Year.

In 2012, eleven years after their last album, the singer returned to the band No Doubt and released the album Push and Shove. In 2014, she took on a new challenge and accepted the role of coach for The Voice in the United States. In September 2015, she returns for the ninth season of The Voice alongside Adam Levine and Pharrell Williams.

On the personal side, Gwen Stefani shared the life of No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal for seven years in the 1990s. She married singer Gavin Rossdale in 2002 and gave birth to a baby boy, Kingston James, on May 26, 2006. A happy mother, she gave birth to Zuma Nesta Rock on August 21, 2008. The family grows with the arrival of a third boy, Apollo Bowie Flynn, on February 28, 2014. But in August 2015, the couple officially announced their separation after thirteen years of marriage. Surprise! In November 2015, during the Country Music Awards in Nashville, the singer made official her romance with Blake Shelton, a country singer she met on the set of The Voice.
