Gladys Portugues is an American actress and former professional bodybuilder born on September 30, 1957.

She is best known for being the wife of actor Jean-Claude Van Damme in 1987. The couple divorced after the birth of two children, Kristopher and Bianca, both became actors. They are reunited again in 1999. If the first marriage lasts only 5 years, the second one is more solid with a duration of 16 years. The request for divorce is due to Gladys Portugues who mentions “irreconcilable disputes”.

Gladys Portugues and Jean-Claude Van Damme met at the beginning of the 80’s around their common passion for bodybuilding. Gladys’ attraction for bodybuilding is not new since she became interested in it while she was still a student. It is after seeing Rachel Mc Lish win the title of Ms. Olympia that Gladys Portugues became interested in this discipline. She became a professional bodybuilder and twice placed in the top 10 of the Ms. Olympia supreme competition. In 1987, a year after appearing in The morning after as a bodybuilder alongside Jane Fonda, Gladys Portugues played a waitress in It’s Alive III: Island of the Alive. In 2011, she plays her own character in the reality show devoted to her husband: Jean-Claude Van Damme: Behind Closed Doors.
