Born on May 6, 1991 in Lexington, USA, George Clooney is the son of Nick Clooney, a journalist and Nina Bruce, a former beauty queen. From an early age, he appeared on his father’s shows, which gave him a taste for the profession. He then started studying journalism, before running the castings, freshly arrived in Los Angeles at the age of 21, against his father’s advice.

In 1994, he was noticed by producers of a new medical series, Urgences. He landed one of the main roles, that of paediatrician Doug Ross, which he played for five years. The series was a huge success and allowed him to be discovered. From then on, the actor received many offers and turned to cinema; O’Brother (for which he received the Golden Globe for best actor), A Night in Hell, directed by the duo Robert Rodriguez-Quentin Tarantino, Batman & Robin, The Red Line…

In 2000, George Clooney joined forces with his accomplice from Hors d’atteinte, Steven Soderbergh, to found Section Eight, with the ambition of creating an entity capable of producing ambitious films and protecting their authors from the normal studio process. Very different films were made such as Far from Paradise, Welcome to Colinwood, Ocean’s Eleven and Ocean’s Twelve, Confessions of a Dangerous Man, The Jacket, Criminal etc. He has become Steven Soderbergh’s favourite actor and has appeared in six of his films, including the mainstream films Ocean’s Eleven and its sequels, as well as more daring projects such as the remake of Solaris in 2002 and The Good German in 2006.

In 2005, he appeared in Stephen Gaghan’s Syriana, a socially engaged mainstream film for which he had to gain 15 to 20 kilos. During one scene, he seriously injured his spine and had to be hospitalized for several weeks. His performance earned him the Oscar and the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. In 2008, the film Michael Clayton earned him his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor. In 2010, his outstanding performance in the feature film In the Air earned him a nomination for the Ocars, BAFTA and Golden Globe. He continued shooting The Descendants (2011), Gravity (2013), A very murray christmas (2015), Money monster (2016). In February 2017, he was awarded a César d’honneur for his entire career.

At the same time, the actor moves to the other side of the camera and makes his first film, Confessions of a Dangerous Man (2002), adapted from the autobiography of the producer and TV host who would have worked for the CIA, Cluck Barris. The film was critically acclaimed but received a mixed reception. He renewed the experience in March 2005 with Good Night, and Good Luck, a plunge into the middle of 1950s macarthyist America. Shot in black and white, the film won several prizes at the Venice Film Festival. In 2008, he became interested in the world of American football through his third film, Jeux de dupe, but it was a failure. He returns in 2011 with a new film, The Marches of Power, and in 2014 with Monuments Men. In 2017, George Clooney returns with his sixth feature film, Suburbicon. On 24 February 2017, he received a César d’honneur.

A committed actor, he supports Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential elections. The actor publicly opposed the American war in Iraq and became involved in the cause of Sudan to stop the genocide in Darfur. In January 2008, he was appointed Messenger of Peace by Ban Ki-Moon, the United Nations Secretary.

On the private side, George Clooney was married to actress Talia Balsam (1989-1993). He then shared the lives of Celine Balitran (1996-1999), British model Lisa Snowdon (2000-2005), Italian Elisabetta Canalis (2009-2011) and former wrestling star Stacy Keibler (2011-2013). In October 2013, the actor will appear with Amal Alamuddin in London. On 27 April 2014, People magazine announces the engagement of this glamorous couple.
