Eminem, whose real name was Marshall Bruce Mathers III, was born in the United States on October 17, 1972, in St. Joseph, Missouri. A rapper with a sulphurous reputation, he often draws his inspiration from a chaotic youth and does not hesitate to attack his mother, his ex-wife or other artists in particularly corrosive texts. His style and verve quickly made him an artist recognized and adored by fans. Travelling between Kansas City and Detroit as a child, Eminem forged a shell and began to develop a passion for rap at the age of 13.
He quickly tried to get into this musical milieu but he faced the hostility of other rappers because of his skin colour. He was not discouraged, however, and was finally spotted by the famous rapper Dr. Dre who signed him to his label. In 1999, he released his first album entitled The Slim Shady LP and success was immediate. Since then, all of his albums have been sold out and he even made his breakthrough in the movies, as actor and director of the film 8 Mile, which tells the story of his troubled teenage years in Detroit. The film was a hit with audiences and critics alike, and its soundtrack even earned him an Oscar. But between provocations, drug problems and suspicions of homophobia, Eminem remains a sulphurous and often disparaged artist.
On the private side, Eminem has a daughter Hailie Jade born on December 25, 1995 from his union with Kimberly Anne Scott. The couple were first married in 1999 and divorced in 2001. In January 2006, they remarried but separated a few months later.
