Elodie Bouchez was born on April 5, 1973 in Montreuil, near Paris. Only daughter of an architect converted into a cab driver and an executive assistant, she grew up in the suburbs. Passionate about dance and attracted by the stage, the little girl dreams of becoming an actress. As a teenager, through her dance classes, she started casting and auditioning for commercials. At the age of 16, she plays in her first film, Stan the Flasher, directed by Serge Gainsbourg.

After a literary baccalaureate with a theater option, she takes theater classes in Nanterre, while continuing her dance. She goes through the castings and gets an appearance in an episode of the series Les Cordier juge et flic. In 1994, she was noticed and landed a role in André Téchiné’s Les Roseaux sauvages. Her performance earned her the César for Best Female Prospect. The same year, she played in Le Péril Jeune by Cédric Klapisch, which was a great success. The career of the young actress is launched. From then on, she continued to film: La divine poursuite (1996), Les raisons du cœur (1996), Le ciel est à nous (1997), J’aimerais pas crever un dimanche (1998).

Her talent was confirmed in 1998, with La vie rêvée des anges by Erick Zonca, which earned her the César for best actress and the prize for best actress at Cannes with her partner Natacha Régnier.
