Claude Moine of his real name was born on July 3, 1942 in Paris. At the age of 11, he discovers rock and the music of Elvis Presley, from then on he becomes passionate about this new musical trend. A precocious child of French music, he performed on stage when he was only 14 years old. Great admirer of the actor Eddie Constantine, he was inspired by him to choose his stage name; Eddy Mitchell. At the age of 18, he does odd jobs and at the same time starts to perform at balls with his band called the Five Rocks.

Success came in 1961, when he sang for Les Chaussettes noires (the group was renamed by producer Eddie Barclay). The rock band then made a sensational debut in France. In spite of the success, tensions appear within the group and each one pursues its way in solo. Eddy Mitchell does not abandon his passion and launches out in solo, operating a turn towards the rhythm’n’blues. In 1965, he published the album Du rock’n’roll au rythm’n’blues which marked his musical evolution. Several titles become successes; I forgot to forget it, Alice, Société anonyme…

At the beginning of the 1970s, he goes through a difficult period, his albums sell less well (God bless rock’n’roll, electric Ketchup…). He returned to success after a trip to the United States from where he returned with hit songs such as Sur la Route de Memphis (1976) or La Dernière Séance (1977). During the following decade, he imposes a crooner style to his musical productions and sings Couleur menthe à l’eau (1980), Le cimetière des éléphants (1982), or Lèche-bottes blues (1989). As a tribute to cinema, he named his farewell tour Ma dernière séance, following a series of about a hundred dates in France, Switzerland and Belgium and ending in Paris in September 2011.

In 2014, Eddy Mitchell will tour under the direction of Claude Lelouch in the film Salaud on t’aime with Johnny Hallyday. He reunites with Johnny Hallyday a few months later on stage for the Vieilles Canailles tour with Jacques Dutronc. In June 2017, the trio reunites again for a new tour of the Vieilles Canailles which meets a great success.

On the private side, in June 1961, Eddy Mitchell married Françoise Lavit. The couple had two children; Eddy (1962) and Marilyn (1965). But the couple separates in 1979. The singer married Muriel Bailleul in 1980. Their daughter Pamela is born in 1982.
