The son of Johnny Hallyday and Sylvie Vartan, one of the most famous couples in show business, the discreet David also counts actress Laura Smet as half-sister and actor Michael Vartan as first cousin.

Born on August 14, 1966 in Boulogne-Billancourt, David Hallyday, lulled by the melodies of his parents, has been passionate about music since his earliest childhood. After a brief stint at the conservatory, he learns to play drums, piano and guitar on his own, and is now a self-taught musician. At only 13 years old, he took to the stage of the Pavillon de Paris to take his place on the drums and accompany his father on a song from his show. The teenager’s life changed in 1980 after his parents divorced and he moved to Los Angeles, where his mother settled with producer Tony Scotti. In 1986, he wrote a song for Sylvie Vartan, She can dance, which launched his career and quickly made it into the American charts. His first album, True cool, released in 1988, confirmed his success and the single High remained number one in the top 50 in France for several weeks.

After several albums (Rock’n’Heart, On the road, 2000 BBF, Novacaine), he was awarded at the NRJ Music Awards for Best Male Artist of the Year for his opus Un paradis / un enfer released in 1999. He sings a duet with his half-sister Laura Smet on the title On se fait peur from the album Disque d’or Un nouveau monde (2010). This more intimate album, on which David Hallyday plays almost every instrument, marks a turning point in his career. A renowned songwriter, he composes for his mother (Sylvie, Soleil bleu), his father (Sang pour Sang) and numerous performers (Florent Pagny, Anggun, Grand Corps Malade…) without forgetting the credits of shows (Jour de football).

David Hallyday is diversifying his activities and confirms his participation as a member of the jury for the programme Rising Star, the new TV programme for the start of the 2014 school year on M6.

An avid motor racing enthusiast, he has been taking part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for several years. With his friend Philippe Alliot, a former Formula 1 driver, he founded a racing team in the Grand Tourism category, Force One Racing, with which they became French champions in 2001.

On the private side, David Hallyday forms a couple with Estelle Lefébure, whom he marries in 1989, and who receive a lot of media coverage. The couple have two daughters, Ilona (born in May 1995) and Emma (born in September 1997). Unfortunately, the couple is falling apart after more than ten years of marriage. Married to Alexandra Pastor, daughter of Monegasque real estate magnate Michel Pastor, since 5 June 2004, they have a son, Cameron, born in October 2004.
