Colin Jost was born on June 29, 1982 in New York City. The son of a doctor and an engineer, he grew up with his brother on Staten Island. A brilliant student, after attending the Regis High School in Manhattan, he entered Harvard University. He studied English and Russian literature and graduated in 2004.

During his years at the University, he became president of the Harvard Lampoon, the comedy magazine founded by Harvard students. His writing and humor helped him get noticed. In 2005, he began his career as a writer for television and was recruited by NBC for its flagship show Saturday Night Live. He will make his weapons there and will climb the ladder over the years. In 2009, he became the program’s writing supervisor before being named co-editor of Saturday Night Live in 2012.
