Christian Bale was born on January 30, 1974 in Haverfordwest, Wales, to an airline pilot father and a circus artist mother. The youngest of the family, he has an older sister, Sharon. He grew up between England and the United States and quickly showed a talent for acting. Attracted by the stage from an early age, he took acting classes and notably played Rowan Atkinson in 1984. He shoots commercials in the hope of being noticed. In 1987, he made his first appearance on the big screen in Mio min Mio by Vladimir Grammatikov. He was only 13 years old when Steven Spielberg chose him from hundreds of children to play the lead role in Empire of the Sun.

In January 2019, he won the award for Best Actor in a Comedy for his role in Vice at the Golden Globes.
On the personal side, Christian Bale has been married since 2000 to Sibi Blazic, a former model. The couple has two children; Emmeline (born in 2005) and Joseph (born in 2014).
