Carrie Symonds was born on March 17, 1988, in East Sheen, London. She is the daughter of Matthew Symonds, the co-founder of the British newspaper, The Independent, and Josephine Mcaffee, a lawyer.

She was educated first at the prestigious Godolhin School and then at Latymer in Hammersmith. A few years later, she graduated with a BA in Theatre and Art History from the University of Warwick. In 2009, Carrie entered politics to become a press officer for the Conservative Party. She gained experience working successively for Sajid David, future Home Secretary, John Wittingdale, Secretary of State for Culture, before becoming Marketing Manager for MP Zac Goldsmith.

In 2012, she met Boris Johnson and participated in his re-election as Mayor of London, before being appointed Director of Communications for the Conservative Party. She launched the party’s Twitter account. In August 2018, Carrie decided to resign from her position to join the marketing team of the ocean protection NGO, Oceana.

On the private side, Carrie Symonds long faced rumours about her affair with Boris Jonshon, inflaming the British press as early as February 2018, after they were spotted in a restaurant in London. In September 2018, the politician began divorce proceedings with his wife Marina Wheeler. On February 18, 2020, their divorce is pronounced. On February 29, 2020, Boris Johnson’s spokesman announced the Prime Minister’s engagement to his girlfriend Carrie Symonds. The couple is expecting a child. On April 29, 2020, Carrie Symonds gave birth to a baby boy. On May 2, 2020, she revealed her son’s first name, Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas, on her Instagram account in honour of the couple’s grandfathers and the doctors who treated Boris Johnson.
