Inspired by the music of “The Lion King: The Gift,” the new visual album written, produced and directed by BEYONCE.
This visual album reinterprets the lessons taught by a father to his young son for all young kings and queens who are now searching for their own crown.
The initiatory journey of a young ruler confronted with betrayal, love and the search for identity pays homage to the journeys of Black families through time. Guided by his ancestors in the fulfillment of his destiny, keeping in mind the precepts of his father and the advice of his childhood sweetheart, the young lion gradually acquires the virtues necessary to reclaim a people and a throne that have been wrongly usurped.
These timeless life lessons are revealed and reflected in today’s Black voices, whose resonance is now evident. BLACK IS KING is a statement of purpose: the celebration of Black resilience and culture through an incredible visual richness. In this sense, the film highlights the beauty of Black tradition and excellence.
