Beyoncé Knowles was born on September 4, 1981 in Houston, USA. Born into a family of Haitian origin, her mother, Tina Knowles, is a hairdresser and her father, Mathew Knowles, is a salesman. Very early on, she was noticed at school because the little girl proved to be very gifted in singing. Later she won a singing competition – on the title Imagine, by John Lennon – for a school show. Her parents encouraged her passion and enrolled her in an elementary school specializing in music. At the age of 9, with her cousin Kelly Rowland and two other friends, she formed a band, Girl’s Tyme. Mathew Knowles resigned in 1995 to devote herself exclusively to her daughter’s band, which played a string of local concerts. After four years on the road, they signed their second contract at the end of 1997 with Columbia Records. Destiny’s Child was born.

In 1997, they recorded their first song, Killing Time, taken from the soundtrack of the film Men in Black. The following year, they released their eponymous debut album, which contained their first hit, No, No, No, No. A dazzling success for the four Texan women, who released a second album in 1999, The Writing’s on the wall, featuring the single Say my name. This single won two awards at the 2001 Grammy Awards: Best R’n’B performance by a duo or group and Best R’n’B Song. The album was a phenomenal success, going platinum several times and selling over eight million copies. The band then surfed the wave of the huge success of their third album, Survivor, to launch all three of them into solo careers.

In 2002, Beyoncé Knowles made a foray into film and appeared in several productions; Carmen: Hip Hopera and Austin Powers: Goldmember. The following year, she was cast in the romantic comedy The Fighting Temptations. In 2003, she also released her first solo album, Dangerously In Love. The album went multi-disc platinum and Beyoncé won five Grammy Awards, a record she shared with four other female artists: Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse. At the same time, she multiplied duets with Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Sean Paul, Justin Timberlake and even the French rap group IAM.

In the mid-2000s, the singer returned to Destiny’s Child to record the group’s new and latest album, Destiny Fulfilled, released in November 2004. During the world tour, the group announces its dissolution despite their immense success. In March 2006, the band is honored by a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The same year, the singer resumed her solo career with B’day, released on her twenty-fifth birthday. It went platinum three times, selling more than 10 million copies, and won the award for Best Contemporary R’n’B Album at the 2007 Grammy Awards.

In March 2011, Beyoncé Knowles and her father, a long-time manager, announced their professional breakup. From now on, Beyoncé manages her own career with her management team. Album 4 will be released in June 2011. Artistically, the album is a return to her roots with a sound inspired by funk and soul. A turn that has repercussions on the sales of the album: Run the World is the worst single of her career (No. 29 on the Billboard), and Best Thing I Never Had does not integrate the top 50 of American sales. In 2013, she released her fifth album soberly entitled Beyoncé, accompanied by a tour of The Mrs Carter Show World Tour. In 2016, the singer comes back with the album Lemonade and The Formation World Tour.

A committed artist, she founded with her cousin and former member of Destiny’s Child, Kelly Rowland, the Survivor Foundation to rehouse the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

On the personal side, Beyoncé Knowles married on April 4, 2008, to rapper Jay-Z, her partner of 6 years. On January 7, 2012, the couple became parents of a little Blue Ivy Carter. On February 1, 2017, Beyoncé Knowles announced on social networks that she was expecting twins. On June 12, 2017, she gives birth to a boy and a girl, Rumi and Sir.
