Alexander Gilkes is a British millionaire, businessman, co-founder and chairman of Paddle8, an online auction house. Alexander Gilkes was born in London. His father, Jeremy, is one of Britain’s leading dermatologists. He studied at the University of Bristol, where he learned Russian and Spanish, and then at Eton where he met Princes Harry and William, of whom he became a close friend.

His professional career is brilliant. From one of the youngest managers at LVMH, he became marketing director and auctioneer for the major auction house Phillips de Pury & Company. He notably officiates at prestigious auctions such as Madonna’s Raising Malawi, or for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

In 2011, he co-founded Paddle8, an online auction house specializing in fine art and collectibles, whose success has made him a millionaire and very influential. In 2017, he is named one of the world’s most creative entrepreneurs by Fast Company magazine, as well as one of the 100 most powerful people in the art world and one of the 40 most important people under 40, and is regularly cited as one of the best-dressed personalities.

He sits on the board of the New York Academy of Art, where he is now based.
