Scarlett Johansson aka Black Widow in the MCU universe has sued movie industry giant Disney. The actress’ attorney, John Berlinski of Kasowitz Benson Torres LLP filed the lawsuit on July 29. It reads: “Disney intentionally tricked Marvel into breaking the contract, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from taking full advantage of her Marvel deal.”
Scarlett Johansson’s latest Marvel movie has been streamed on Disney +. This broadcast caused the box office to drop 67%. To make matters worse, Scarlett’s salary is “based on the film’s box office performance.” The film’s box office revenue started at $ 80 million before dropping drastically.
The National Association of Theater Owners said in a statement that the performance “demonstrates that an exclusive theatrical release means more revenue for all stakeholders in every cycle of the film’s life.” The case of Scarlett is not isolated, the tension between the studios and the directors is also particularly palpable. In a statement, Christopher Nolan said HBO Max is the “worst streaming service.”
“One of the worst performing Marvel movies to date.”
The film’s overall sales currently stand at $ 319 million. When it comes to the box office, Black Widow is Marvel’s worst-performing movie so far. With the film world currently plagued by COVID due to the restrictions, studios must go for flexibility. Disney CEO Bob Chapek is outraged by this complaint filed by Scarlett Johansson.
