A vast search operation was launched by the Parquet de Saint-Etienne, in order to find the six-month-old girl, who was kidnapped by her parents on Friday at the city’s university hospital. On Saturday evening, the police had not yet found the child, although a relative of the couple was taken into custody.

Six-month-old, the little girl, presented as a very premature baby, was placed on a respirator when she was removed from the pediatric department of the North Hospital of Saint-Etienne. His parents, of foreign origin, according to the Saint-Etienne police, deceived the vigilance of the staff of the establishment. It was at the request of justice that the child had been removed from his home to be placed under the educational assistance of social assistance for children, as specified by the deputy public prosecutor of Saint- Etienne, André Merle “This little girl is the subject of a temporary placement by a children’s judge with the Children’s Social Aid because of educational deficiencies identified in her family” adding that the ASE has herself entrusted to the hospital in view of her state of health.
It is now the departmental security of the Loire which has opened a preliminary investigation for “removal of a child from the authority to which he has been entrusted”, at the request of the Prosecutor, accompanied by an “order of ban on leaving the territory of the child”. A man close to the couple was taken into custody on Saturday, after many family members were heard by the investigating services. The “kidnapping alert” alarm was not triggered, however, because according to the Saint-Etienne public prosecutor’s office “certain criteria, including that of endangering the child, ‘were not met'” as reported by our colleagues of Public Good.
