Reality sometimes surpasses fiction. Ryan Grantham, known for his role in Riverdale and revealed in films like The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, or The Diary of a Wimpy Kid, admitted to killing his mother, Barbara Anne Waite, in March 2020. The Canadian actor 24-year-old pleaded guilty last March, admitting to committing second-degree murder. Risking life imprisonment, the young man clarified that he still had dark intentions. According to information from the CBC channel taken over by People on June 15, the suspect was planning to assassinate Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister.
A barely believable plan that Ryan Grantham confided in a plea considered by the Prosecution Service of British Columbia, which determines the sentence incurred by the accused. The Service indicates that for a second degree murder, parole will only be possible after a minimum of 10 years of incarceration, a period which can go up to 25 years. A heavy sentence – approved by those close to him – which could well be pronounced, given the chilling facts reported by CBC. According to the outlet, Ryan Grantham had premeditated the murder, which he rehearsed. He also took videos, some of which are dated several hours after the crime. The Canadian allegedly shot his mother in the head while she was playing the piano. She had cancer. To add to the horror, the interpreter of Jeffery confessed his act in front of the camera by filming the body, discovered the next day by his sister.
Ryan Grantham armed for an attack against Justin Trudeau
The drama could have continued. As CBC still relates, Ryan Grantham would have killed his mother to spare him from seeing what was to follow. A justification put forward by prosecutor Michaela Donnelly, who is based on two psychiatric reports, which show a recent depression of the young actor, and his desire to commit acts of violence. In his tracks, the latter planned to kill Justin Trudeau. Armed to the teeth with three firearms, 12 Molotov cocktails and ammunition, Ryan Grantham had also brought camping equipment and a route to get to Rideau Cottage, where the head of state and his family live. The alleged murderer fortunately abandoned his plan and surrendered to the Vancouver police, who collected his confession. The Prosecution Service has confirmed that the hearing is scheduled to take place this week.
