From 1997 to 2018, Grace Hightower experienced the joys of marriage to Robert de Niro. After twenty-one years of marriage, the couple decided to end their relationship, without revealing the reasons for their breakup. Grace Hightower is also from the world of cinema but her career is less impressive than her ex-companion: she only played supporting roles.
We saw her in Paperboy (2012) or in Precious (2009), a film for which she lent her voice. It is she who interprets the piece from the soundtrack. Designated as a philanthropist, in 2013 she launched her coffee brand, Coffee of Grace, in order to market Rwandans’ farm products internationally and thus improve their daily lives.
Grace Hightower and Robert de Niro welcomed two children during their love affair. Elliot, born in 1998, has autism. And Helen, born in December 2011 to a surrogate mother. The 77-year-old actor is also the father of four other children, born from his previous unions: Drena, Julian Henry, Aaron Kendrick and Raphael De Niro.
Grace Hightower and Robert de Niro: a heated divorce
The divorce was not easy for the couple. And for good reason, Grace Hightower demanded a large sum of money from her ex-spouse. In June 2019, the actress’s lawyer explained to Page Six that she had to claim half of her fortune from her: a contract indicated that she would receive, in the event of a divorce, an apartment worth $ 6 million , $ 500,000 in cash, as well as $ 1 million in child support. But it was obviously not enough. They also fought for custody of their daughter, Helen.
Last July, the actor was summoned to court to explain why he had reduced the amount of child support he pays his ex-wife. By Skype, Robert de Niro had let it be known that he had made this choice following a drop in income linked to the coronavirus.
