Without complex, on February 15, Rihanna posted on her social networks a new photo of her in underwear. On the latter, the 32-year-old singer and businesswoman appears topless and only wearing shorts from her lingerie brand Savage x Fenty. For the luxury touch, the star has chosen to wear imposing lavender-colored jewels. It is in any case these accessories that caused a controversy. Indeed, one of its pendants represents Ganesh, an emblematic figure of Hinduism.
If many fans liked his post, other Internet users were particularly shocked to see the performer of the title Disturbia daring to reveal part of his chest, while choosing a necklace bearing the effigy of the Indian deity. Ram Kadam, Indian parliamentarian and member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationalist party, could not help but react. On Twitter, the politician reposted the artist’s photo, saying: “It is scandalous to see how Rihanna shamefully mocks our beloved God Ganesh. It shows how much she has no respect for Indian culture and traditions. ” Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), namely the Hindu World Council, a group attached to the ruling Hindu nationalist party Bharatiya Janata (BJP), said he had lodged a complaint. The objective being in particular that social networks remove the photo of Rihanna.

“Why isn’t anyone talking about this?”
This is not the first time that the star has been in the crosshairs of members of the Indian government. In early February, Rihanna denounced, on Twitter, the new agricultural reforms implemented in New Delhi. Many Indian farmers protested against the latter, which are supposed to help the sector become more competitive, but which above all risk favoring large groups. “Why isn’t anyone talking about that?”, The singer was indignant. Greta Thunberg and Meena Harris, Kamala Harris’ niece, also reacted.
